About Lidia Gonzalez

Lidia Gonzalez has been a mathematics educator since 2000 and a teacher educator since 2008. She holds a a BS and MA in mathematics education from New York University and a PhD from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY) in urban education. She is a licensed mathematics teacher holding professional certification in mathematics teaching in NYS and NYC.

Lidia began her career as a high school mathematics teacher in a NYC public school. She taught there for 7 years after which she returned to school to complete a doctoral degree. She is currently a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at York College, CUNY where she has been working since 2008. There she teaches mathematics classes to future elementary school teachers as well as mathematics courses for math majors and math courses for students of other majors. She facilitates the math/computer science seminar and conducts research on the development of mathematics identity and issues of equity/diversity in mathematics education. Professionally she is driven by a desire to share her passion for mathematics with others. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family. They are fond of impromptu dance parties, the prospect park zoo, the botanic gardens, crafts, and just about any bookstore.
